Course Length: 40 hours
The Radiation Safety Training Course covers the basics of radiation safety for industrial radiography that meets the requirements of 10 CFR34.43 (g) and prepares the attendee for radiographer certification (ASNT-IRRSP-1A).
Topics covered include: introduction to radiation and radiation safety, radiation and radiography, control of radiation exposure, measurement of radiation, biological effects of radiation, federal standards, and radiographic equipment operation and maintenance.
Training includes practical sessions for survey instrument calibration, operation of exposure devices, conducting surveys, set-up of controlled areas, source exchanges, leak testing, daily inspections performed by radiography personnel and formal maintenance requirements.
No prerequisites required.
Prospective radiographers, radiation safety officers, experienced radiographers requiring updated instruction, and anyone closely associated with isotope radiography.
After taking the course, you will be able to safely operate exposure devices, conduct radiation surveys, set up controlled areas, perform source changes, conduct leak tests, and perform routine inspection and maintenance of industrial radiography equipment.
A mid-course test is conducted to monitor student progress followed by a final written examination at the completion of the course to ensure the student has a complete understanding of the subjects covered.
